2 years old

Matthew is now 2 years old. I can't believe he's 2 already. We did some special activities on his actual birthday and we had a party for him the weekend following his birthday. On Thursday, I woke up early and went to Kroger and got him some balloons. Then I made him chocolate chip pancakes. I put whip cream in between each pancake and on top. I put syrup and blue sprinkles on it and, of course, 2 candles. He did really well with blowing out the candles and kept asking me to light them so he could blow them out. He was also very excited about the balloons. We got dressed and his Nana took him to Toys R Us to get any toy he wanted. He decided on a Yo Gabba Gabba boom box thing that is very noisy, but he loves it, so whatever. Then we met Daddy for lunch, and we went to Taco Bell cause Matthew loves tacos (or just mexican food in general). Then we went to COSI, and I dropped Matthew and Nana off so I could park and so they wouldn't have to walk. When I finally got there ,I realized that the place was packed with kids. There was long lines everywhere. So I could only imagine what the kidspace looked like. It's meant for kids up to 8, but Matthew is still small and 5 or 6 year olds can trample him easily. But Matthew was tired and didn't care that we decided to leave. When we got home we all took a nap, and when we got up Matthew made gummy candies and decorated a cupcake cake. I normally just give him a few different sprinkles, but this time he was more into eating the sprinkles than putting them on the cake. But we got some on there along with his gummies; he is getting really good at doing that. For dinner we made a ribeye roast, potatoes, corn, green beans, glazed carrots, and french bread. Then we all sang "Happy Birthday" and he blew out more candles (more than once). He didn't like using his hands to eat the cake, so I gave him a fork and he just started shoveling it in. We went ahead and gave him a gift: an art easel with a chalk board on one side and dry erase board on the other. He loves it; he can just go and color with the chalk without having to ask, and he learned how to use the eraser.
That Saturday we had Matthew's birthday party at 4pm at Gantz park. It was such a beautiful day out. I had been watching the weather all week hoping for great weather. It was 65, sunny, not a cloud in the sky, and zero chance of rain. I decided to have it there cause Matthew absolutely just loves this park, and the shelter house is located right next to the playing area. I put paper on the table along with crayons and Play-doh for people to color the paper with. We had drinks, snacks, pizza, and cake. We arrived around 3:30pm to start setting up, and Matthew wanted to play as soon as we got there. He played almost the whole time. He took a few minutes here and there to eat, open gifts, and blow out candles. We had gone to the park a few times before and he had always stayed clear of the big slides, but this day he was quite the little dare devil. There was one slide that swirled around and he would dive head first into. It would slow down towards the bottom but still it made me nervous. The party lasted about 2 1/2 hours and he enjoyed every minute of it. Usualy when we leave the park I have to carry him away yelling while he's yelling "play", but he was exhausted from playing the whole time.
I went for a baby check up this week as well. I thought it went fine, but my doctor called and wanted some further testing. The issue was that I was taking my glucose test by drinking this special drink 45 minutes before my appointment, and they would take my sugar when I got there. Well on the directions all it said was "don't eat anything after consuming the drink". But it didn't say anything about before, so I eated a bagel. When the nurse took my sugar I thought it was high, but she said it was fine so I left. Then the next day my doctor called and had scheduled a 3 hour glucose tolerance test (which I've taken when I was a teenager). When I called to ask why, I explained the bagel situation, and they may let me take the test again. So hopefully everything works out. Besides that, everything looked fine. I start going every 2 weeks now. She told me I wouldn't have to do nonstress test like I had to with Matthew. I was dreading those tests. I always ended up in a room with cords attached to me for hours by myself with no food or TV.
Matthew has his 2 year check up on Monday. A week ago Matthew came down with a virus. He had a really runny nose; then a few days later got a dry cough (I could hear congestion). I tried home remedies, but I was afraid it was turning into ear infections, so I went ahead and took him to the doctors. It turned out to just be a virus he picked up, and with some over the counter meds and humidifier he was better in a week or so. His cough lingered but was gone by his birthday. While he was at the doctor's, she noticed some fluid in one ear and said that he may have the fluid in his ear all the time. This is normal for kids his age but makes them prone to ear infections. Because he was sick, it was hard to tell if the fluid was always there or if it was because he was sick. I'm interested to see on Monday if the fluid is still there even when he's not sick.
I'll try to get pictures up soon
