6 month Check up
10/22/2008
Matthew had his 6 month well check today even though he is 6 1/2 months. He is doing really well. He weighed 18lbs 1oz and is 27in tall. Everything checked out good. He got 4 shots and I got 1. We both have to go back in a month for Matthew to get another shot and for my blood work. He fell asleep on the way to the doctor's but woke up when we had to weigh him. He was very excited to see his doctor which he usually is. He set up the whole time all the table waving his hands around. He was smiling and talking. He wasn't too happy about the shots. They have me lay him down and as soon as he is allowed up he stops crying. But the visit pretty much wore him out. Matthew was grabbing at everything he could. If something came with in arms reach he grabbed it which included the doctors instruments and hair :)
She gave the go ahead on starting finger foods. Of course he has never done anything like that so we will take it one step at a time. She said as soon as babies can support there weight on their hands they can start to eat the little puff foods. He can also start on a sippy cut which will be really nice. I will offer it tonight and see how he does. Then he has his next check up in January before our vacation.
I have been sick since last Friday and was lucky to have scheduled a well check for myself at the same time his appointment was. Doctor says I just have a nasty cold. So I got some prescriptions and she told me to take it easy. Which isn't hard because this cold has taken all my energy.
Matthew has been a little easier going to bed. But yesterday I was so exhausted I couldn't drag myself out of bed and so Matthew and I slept in until 10am. But that screwed up his whole napping and bedtime. I put him to bed at his usual time but he wasn't tired at all. So Matt went to try and get him to sleep and ended up just getting him out of bed. So then he stayed up watching tv with us until 9ish. But went right to sleep when I put him in bed. Then there was one night we ate dinner a little late like 7ish and he was falling asleep in his high chair. It was so cute. He was wanting to eat because he was having bananas which he loves but couldn't keep his eyes open. But hopefully he will get back on schedule.
Matthew has this mat that his Aunt Crystal got him. He use to lay on it with toys hanging over him. But it turns into a tunnel for him to play in. So he hadn't played with it for a little while to I converted it into a tunnel. He seemed to really like it. I put him in facing up with a blanket for him to lay on. He was just going crazy in it. He was laughing and kicking. So I went into the kitchen and made me a drink. I came back and he was flipped over and side ways sticking out of the bottom of the toy. I took pictures and will have them up soon. He also hung out with me while I was clipping coupons. Which he loves paper and he started to scatter all my papers every where. Matt came home and there was fliers all over the place and Matthew sitting right in the middle of them. It was cute and the cheapest toy he's ever had.
Since I have taken Matthew's bumper off he doesn't really grab the bars. However he is constantly rolling and crawling backwards and getting his feet in the rails so I am putting his bumper back on. I will probably keep it on until he starts destroying it.
Matt and I have been working on remodeling and it's coming along slowly. I probably would have more done if I hadn't got sick. Matt tried helping with the painting and it looked ridiculous. So I have to get more paint and go over it again :)
I will get new pics up soon.

18 lbs already! Glad he had a good check-up...it's good fine motor development to eat finger foods, too. What's your vacation you have in January?

ctually 18lbs is pretty average. He is in the 50 percentile for weight and 60th for height. Yeah Matthew doesn't really have a desire to put things in his mouth. So for him to pick up food and put it in his mouth has been a little bit of a challenge. I'm sure once he gets the hang of it he'll be putting everything in his mouth. But he has always been like that. He was never to crazy about pacifiers or teethers.
