Check up

8/27/2008

Matthew had his well check today. Everything went really well. He was in a very good mood. Not that he gets grumpy a lot but he was smiling and laughing at Dr. Fries. He is 17lbs. and is 25 in. tall. Even though I know Matthew has been rolling I hadn't actually seen it for myself. When I put him on his tummy I look and he is on his back. He does it for his Nana all the time but then my mom would call me in and he wouldn't do it. But anyways I told the doc this and so she put him on the table on his tummy and he rolled. It only took him a few seconds and he was on his back.

He did recieve his second set of shots. It didn't go bad at all. I started tickling his neck right before the shot and he cried but he did one of those silent cries. But as soon as I picked him up he smiled at the nurse.

They also liked that he was reaching for things that he wanted. He has these elephants that are attached to eachother and they rattle. Anyways he loves those elephants so much that he just smiles and goes crazy for them. While I was talking to the doctor Matthew was trying to get his toys by kicking then reached down and grabbed it with both hands. He has been doing it for awhile but hey whatever. I told her he does the same thing with his excersizer. He has this bell that he grabs at all the time and lately I've had to remove him because it's attached and he gets so mad that he can't pull it off.
I also asked about this little bump he had on his cheek. At first I thought it was a little pimple but it wasn't going away. So she looked at it and thinks it is a little mole. It's kind of a cute spot for one. Right on the tip of his cheek.

She told me to go ahead and start on baby food since he is doing good on the rice cereal. She suggested squash then sweet potatoes. I can introduce a new food every four days. Then if he has a reaction to something I can tell what it is. So I went and bought baby food for the first time. I'm pretty excited about it. Matthew was cooing the whole time we were in Walmart. It was kinda funny. He has just been yacking all today. Then he has a check up in 6-8 weeks and he may go to stage 2 foods. Depending on how he does with these foods.

While she was checking him she saw that his tag said 18 months on it. She was shocked and said that it didn't seem that big on him. I've stopped buying anything under 12 months.

While I was writing this update Matthew woke up and tried the squash. He actually gobbled it down. He didn't finish off the jar or even half but he swallowed it quicker than he ever did his cereal.

She was also very happy with his sleep pattern. I was gettig a little concerned because the last 2 days he has gone to bed around 7 instead of 8 and has slept in until like 9:30a. I thought maybe he was waking up during the night but just not calling for me and Dr. Fries agreed that that is probably what is happening. But because he is so much more active she expects him to have a good amount of sleep. The only thing that I dislike about him falling asleep early is he doesn't really get to spend that much time with Daddy. So when Matt comes home I tell him while I cook dinner to play with him because he only has an hour or so left. But overall I am happy that he is good of a sleeper. I can't as for much more than that.

But overall a pretty good report. Hope you enjoyed the update.

Oh I know I can't wait until he can eat real food. Well me and Matt always said that Matthew or any of our kids will never sleep with us. As babies anyways. We toss and turn so much there would be no way!

Good thing he did well with the shots...I always and still hate that! Doesn't help that I don't like needles myself... It does seem he goes to bed for quite a long time, but I don't know, I kinda slept through mine nursing during the night in bed with me...Where they pretty much were. I also barely used baby food...didn't start them until after 6 months, and I like to get to real food sooner...hope he likes them!
