Christmas Party 2008

12/22/2008

This week has been extremely busy. We hosted our 4th annual Christmas party. Everything went great and it was a nice gathering. We had tons of food, gifts, and Santa showed up. Matt’s grandparents even came to visit from Florida. Which it was the first time Matthew met his Great Grandpa. We got them all together for a picture of all four generations. We also took pics of Matthew with Santa. Matthew isn’t really into the whole Christmas thing yet. But he does like opening packages. He has no use for our Christmas tree and acts as if it doesn’t exist which is a good thing. He has messed with the train underneath a few times but that’s to be expected. My brother also came to visit for the Christmas so he was able to be there for the party.

I am so happy, excited, and proud to say Matthew is holding his own bottle. In the past week not only have I made hundreds of cookies, wrapped hundreds of gifts, and stayed sane I have also taught him to hold his own bottle. I thought that he was going to fight me for months when I decided to really push it. But it literally took a day. The whole day when I would feed him I would open his hands and make him hold it. He would clinch his fist and wiggle. Honestly by the end of the day I didn’t think I had gotten anywhere. Then the next morning I was getting his breakfast so I went to set the bottle on the highchair. Then I was going to grab his food. Before could sit it down he yanked it out of my hands and popped it right into his mouth. I was so shocked! He has been doing ever since. So hopefully food will be next. In fact just tonight I was feeding him and I was looking at something else and he grabbed my hand that was holding the spoon and pulled it towards his mouth. Of course he may be ready for the spoon but we’ll start with dry puffs first. Less messy J

It’s also been very busy because Matthew is really on the move now. If he wants something he goes and gets it. That includes pretty much anything and everything dangerous. His favorite is finding any electrical cords and remotes. It’s funny though he will press a button on the remote then look at the tv for a reaction. He has a play remote now that does nothing. It’s a real remote but just no batteries. Santa also brought him some little balls to play with which he loves chasing after. Hey whatever keeps him busy J

He is still sleeping pretty well. He had one night and it was the same night of the party. He woke up around 1am balling. I immediately knew it was his teeth. He’ll bite his blanket and clinch his jaw. I felt so sorry for him. I tried baby orajel and Tylenol. Which I have never givin him both but neither really seemed to help. He’s always hated teethers. I rocked him, played with him, and tried to lay him down. But by 3am I was starting to just collapse. I have no idea how parents with kids that stay up all night with collic or for anyother reason do it. That was it for me. But when I got in bed Matt got up. Matt was so tired too he said he just laid next to Matthew’s bed and it helped. So eventually he got some rest and didn’t make a peep until 9 the next morning. Even then he just plays in his bed till I come in. But he only has 8 so far still the rest of the mouth to go. Hopefully they come in during the day.

Oh Matthew loves bath time. This if you remember was the first place he pulled up to standing position. He loves his bath but is so preoccupied with everything outside the tub it’s not even funny. He is constantly reaching over the tub pulling anything into the tub. He’s hoping up and down and going here going there. I feel like I’m trying to wash a cat. Which if you’ve ever washed a cat you know what I’m talking about. Then during changing he is just a wild child. Constantly flipping over and crawling away. Also giggling at the same time. I have to hold him down with one hand and change with the other. So I put a mobile on his changing table to keep his attention but anywhere else he is just not having it.

I hope you enjoyed the update. Check out all the new pics.
