Matthew is 7 months old
11/09/2008
Matthew is now 7 months old. He is getting more and more mobile. He is starting to lean on his hands and knees with his tummy off the ground. But when he rocks forward he just collapses. He moves around a lot by rolling. I laid him down and he was playing with a book in the living room. I came back a few minutes later and the book was there but he was gone. I got nervous for a minute but then heard him giggle and he was between the couch and end table. I’m looking forward to him crawling but I know once he does I’ll be wishing he stay put. He already has his sites set on Friday. She is very cautious of him now. She was sleeping the other day and he reached over and grabbed her whisker. So she is very careful not to get to close. But Matthew is very curious and wants Friday to come play with him. Sometimes if she walks past him and leaves the room he will throw a fit. It still bothers Friday when he cries but lately she will meow at him if he is fussing instead of attacking me.
Matthew is eating really well. He is getting the hang of all his teeth and he practices chewing on his tongue. He makes such funny faces when he does that. He has started taking bites of whole banana the other day. I usually put any fresh food into his strainer thing. But he would open his mouth and take bites. He wanted to take big bites and would fuss when I would pull the banana out. But he hasn’t done whole foods so we started small. He is picking some foods up but doesn’t come close to putting it in his mouth. He is more into observing than eating his food. I have started him on a sippy cup although he is still using bottles because we have more bottles than sippy cups. But it was difficult at first because he would bite it instead of sucking. It took maybe a day for him to figure it out. I got the ones with handles which he likes because he can bang them around with one hand. But he seems to really want to drink out of glasses. When he sees me, Matt, or my mom drinking he reaches for the glass. Then he will open his mouth if the glass gets near him. He is on a breakfast, lunch, and dinner schedule. I try to schedule where we all eat together but it’s very difficult because he often wants to eat before Matt even gets home.
He is getting back on schedule at bedtime. Even though sometimes he goes to bed early or a tad late he goes right to sleep. But since the time change he is waking up an hour earlier than he use to. Usually around 7am he wants up. So I will get up change him and then he stays up by himself. He will sit in his room on a big blanket and play. He has stuffed animals and soft books. Of course I shut the door so he doesn’t get out and wonder around. I still have the monitor on so I can here him talking to his self or any cries. When I do get back up he is in there having a good old time playing. Though once he really starts crawling I won’t be able to do that. But it’s nice that he is content playing by himself sometimes. He’s kinda like his Daddy when it comes to sleeping. He’ll wake up but he still needs that 10 or 20 minutes to just lie there before he is ready to get up. If for some reason I go in to get him up early and he is awake but hasn’t cried for me yet he is still slightly sleepy. Then he ends up taking an earlier morning nap. I have caught him many times just laying there awake looking around.
Matthew is now sitting up in the grocery cart which we both like. Matthew likes being up and seeing everything and I like having more room in the cart. I would always sit him down in the cart instead of up high. It just made me too nervous. But I got a little cart cover which he loves to play with. The only thing is that he gets sleepy and wants to lie down. So I bring extra blankets and just lay him long ways. Of course he is a little tall so his feet hangout but he looks so cute and cozy. He sits up and chit chats with me for the most part though. The other day we went with my mom shopping and he was in her cart. I could here him talking very loudly like 4 rows over. He wasn’t upset just practicing I guess but even that gets very loud sometimes.
I hope you enjoyed the update.
