Weekend update

8/17/2008

This weekend was pretty nice. Friday I spent the day with my mom getting ready for the yard sale. So Saturday we got up bright and early to start selling. A few weeks ago Matthew and I passed out flyers to the neighborhood announcing a community yard sale. I was already having one so I just included everyone else so I could advertise “community sale”. I was shocked how many people participated. We had 7 garage sales just on our street. We got to meet a lot of our neighbors along with other people in the neighborhood. One guy about 5 houses down was loving the community sale. Apparently he had never had a yard sale before. He had a microphone and was announcing to the whole neighborhood that he was cooking hot dogs, chicken on a stick, and fried catfish sandwiches. He also had drinks and chips and was playing music. Him and his family were just so nice and were really having a good time. Of course we probably had the most stuff thanks to me cleaning out our basement and my mom’s attic. We sold a lot at sticker price but towards the end of the day things got cheaper and cheaper. We were not bringing anything back inside so we priced everything 10 cents an item. That seemed to be the magic price because we got rid of almost everything. Matthew hung with us outside and he stayed in the garage most of the time. I thought I stayed out of the sun but apparently I didn’t as I look like a lobster now.

Anyways Matthew is doing pretty well. A few days ago I put him down to do tummy time and much to my surprise he just set up on his elbows and was looking around. Normally his arms go out like wings. His stayed there for a pretty long time. So then later that night I laid him in bed and he was on his side so he just rolled over onto his tummy and did it again. Then just yesterday he was doing it again and starting rolling from that position onto his back. So he’s rockin and rollin!
Matthew has also started going to bed around 8pm which I find awesome. He has been pretty easy to put to bed lately. He use to fall asleep during his bedtime feeding but not anymore. He has been going to bed and falling asleep on his own. It’s really nice that he knows that’s where he sleeps and he knows when he goes in there that’s what he does. So I just lay him in there and leave. Then before I go to sleep I check on him and he is passed out. I believe he is going through a growth spurt. One day he was so chubby then the next day he has a tiny belly. Usually when he eats his belly will stick out but his big belly isn’t lasting as long as it use to. So he has been eating a lot more. He has been okay with the cereal. I can’t wait to try new foods or just new flavors really. He has had zantac and tylenol that are both grape flavored and he seems to really like them. He’s got the whole chomping thing down he just doesn’t like the taste I guess because he gives me the goofiest face while eating. I’m sure he is just as ready as I am because when I eat in front of him he will stare at my mouth and imitate what I am doing. One day he was being grumpy and I was trying to get him to eat so I took his spoon and put it in my mouth. Knowing how gross it is I just bit down with my teeth so I didn’t taste it but he thought it was so funny. He just looked at me like “I can’t believe you’re eating my food”. Then I would make the mmmm sound and he would just smile.

Just a quick story- I have started buying Matthew 9 month clothing because of his length. So I got this really cute outfit on sale and it looked big enough. It even had two buttons up by the neck to help fit better. Well when I went to put it on him even with the two buttons open it wouldn’t fit over his big head. I just threw up my hands and he went naked the rest of the day.

He has also begun to play with toys. It had been a while since he had played with his mat that Aunt Crystal got him so I put him on it. He just went crazy hitting all the toys and grabbing at them. So I have started putting toys on his walker/highchair but he just knocks them off. So I got a large excersaucer for him. It is huge with plenty of attached toys. So no more knocking them off. We have video of him playing with it. This thing is awesome. If he gets bored on one side he has two other sides to play with.

I also have pictures to put up of Matthew with his Papa (my dad). I think my dad asks to see Matthew almost every other day. So when I went down there on Friday he had a ball with him. He had down loaded a ton of cartoons and Matthew set on his lap and just watched them. Matthew loves tv. When one show was over and my dad had to press play on another episode he would fuss in between. He has also been watching the Olympics with his Nana (my mom) and especially likes the swimming. That’s what Nana says anyways.

I hope you enjoyed the long weekend update and hope you had a good weekend too.
